Alessandro Volta's Lab Coat is an artifact featured in "Regrets".

Origin[]

TBA

Effects[]

To activate its effects, all pieces of the lab coat (including the coat itself, both gloves, and the goggles) must be worn actively/as intended (as opposed to resting the goggles on one's foreheads), whereupon the wearer will briefly be engulfed in a wave of light.

When worn, the lab coat "temporarily" increases one's biomagnetic attraction, making them magnetic to all applicable materials. The longer the coat is worn, however, the stronger their magnetic attraction becomes. This can result in the wearer becoming permanently affixed to metal objects and unable to pull themselves away, and attracting more and more metallic objects of increasing distance and size, risking serious property damage, injury, and death.

History[]

Italian physicist Alessandro Volta (the inventor of the battery) discovered that his lab coat had acquired magnetic properties, after which it was obtained by the Warehouse because Volta could no longer control its effects. The more it was worn, the more magnetic it became, until it finally became a danger to everyone around it. It was acquired by Warehouse agents on January 21st, 1969. The electronic label next to the coat reads:

Claudia Donovan has used this artifact to climb the girders in the Warehouse to tighten Shelby bulbs in the ceiling. Unaware of the increasing magnetic danger, she found herself trapped on the girders, and needed rescuing by Artie. He safely demagnetized the jacket, before it could attract every metal object in the Warehouse and collapse the girders around them, killing them both.

Trivia[]

  • This was the first artifact that a viewer could actually purchase, since a piece of it (or at least a sample of the same kind of fabric that the prop was made of) was a Relic Card in the Warehouse 13 trading card series's costume line.
  • Although the artifact's shelving screen claims the lab coat only increases the wearer's biomagnetic attraction "temporarily",[1] it actually exponentially increases the wearer's attraction to extremely dangerous levels until removed.
