These mind-controlling lenses were made by the British inventor, Chester Moore Hall.
Chester Moore Hall was a British lawyer and inventor who came up with the first achromatic lens, which he used to build the first refracting telescope free from color distortions. Convinced from his study of the human eye that achromatic lenses were feasible, Hall experimented with different kinds of glass until he found a combination of crown glass and flint glass that met his requirements. In 1733 he built several telescopes with apertures of 2.5 inches (6.5 cm) and focal lengths of 20 inches (50 cm).
When placed on a person, it locks into place. The user will have full control over the wearer's actions and, it's implied, thoughts. The user can also inflict great pain on the wearer and the wearer can break free of the user's control if their will is strong enough.
It is activated by inserting the lens into the headset, after which the applicator can control the wearer with mental suggestion. If the lens is inserted in reverse, it allows for a degree of reverse control, allowing the wearer to influence the mind of the applicator, though not to the same extent. While wearing the Lens, Claire was able to invade Valda's mind and psychically transfer the energy of Frances Farmer's Music Box to him.
This artifact was originally collected by Warehouse 12.In the alternate universe Paracelsus created, Paracelsus had a small army of super soldiers marching through the Warehouse that were all wearing copies of this artifact and were all brain washed by Paracelsus.
It was used by the alternate Benedict Valda to control Claire Donovan's telepathic power in an attempt to steal the Warehouse in "Cangku Shisi". Valda's plan was to make Claire Caretaker of Warehouse 14 and control her using the Lens.
