Benjamin Franklin's Lightning Rod is a metal rod that boosts the energy level of any device to which it is attached.
It is currently part of Artie's traveling emergency tool kit. He and Claudia Donovan used the Rod in their rescue of Claudia's brother Joshua.
Background
As a scientist, Benjamin Franklin was a major figure in the Enlightenment and the history of physics for his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. He invented the lightning rod, bifocals, the Franklin stove, a carriage odometer, and the glass 'Harmonica'.

Everybody fixates on "the key," but this lightning rod is much better according to Artie.

A booster was a motor-generator set used for voltage regulation in direct current electrical power circuits. The development of alternating current and solid-state devices has rendered it obsolete. Boosters were made in various different configurations to suit different applications.
